2.Tradition has it that soon after settling in North Coweta, prayer meetings were held in the homes of the settlers. These good people seeing the great need for a church put into motion a movement which led to the establishment of the Macedonia Baptist Church in the year 1827. Revolutionary soldier Allen Gay, Ann Gay, Nicholas Dyer, Harriet Dyer, Elizabeth Dyer, Moses Kelly, Moses Shelley, Sarah Jennings and Martha Haney were the charter members.

These consecrated pioneers invited Reverand James Reeves and Reverand Cyrus White to assist. A meeting was held Aug 23, 1827 in the home of Allen Gay, where the church was formally organized. The first church building was a log house with a clay floor, located about a mile northeast of the present church. In 1846 this building burned.

The old graveyard still marks the site of the first church building to be established in Coweta County. After the loss of the old building it was thought best to move the location to it's present site. On July 12, 1847 Jacobus Gibson, James Stamps and Owen Wood, as trustees, arranged the transfer of land for the new buildings. A larger house of worship was required to accomodate the greater attendance.

A plain old barn style building was erected with three doors and four small windows. This meeting house was dedicated in 1847. The first person to be buried in the new cemetery was an infant of James Smith. This was on a Friday. The next day, Allen Gay, the old American patriot and charter member was buried.."

- Excerpt from "A Brief History of Macedonia Baptist Church, Coweta County, Georgia (pamphlet published by the Macedonia Baptist church in Coweta county, Georgia)

The son of Thomas Gay and Frances Patience McDaniel Gay, Allen Gay began his Revolutionary War service when only sixteen years of age, volunteering to act as a substitute for his father, who had been summoned to appear at the high hills of Santee for twelve months' service in the North Carolina Militia. He was attached to a battalion belonging to General Nathaniel Greene's army. At the battle of Eutaw Springs, the company to which he was attached was a part of the advance, and he displayed a courage which would have done honor to veterans. Upon this occasion he actually took five of the enemy as prisoners.

After the war he moved to Georgia: first to Washington County, next to Hancock, County and finally to Coweta County. He married three times: first to Celia Rae Elbert in 1785; second to Abigail Castleberry on September 5, 1787 and then on October 1, 1824 to Ann Pickron Barton. Allen Gay died in Coweta County at the age of eighty-two. He was a worthy member of the Baptist Church and records indicate that the Macedonia Baptist Church was founded in his home in 1828.
