Alphones Bernard Ellering was born July 28, 1898 in Meire Grove, MN to Ben and Anna (Lois) Ellering. At the age of 30, Al married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Welle on September 30, 1925 at St Johns Catholic Church in Meire Grove, MN.

Lizzie was the first child born to Joseph and Anna (Schoenberg) Welle and was raised her parents farm 1 mile north of the village of Meire Grove. Lizzie is also the first grandchild of her maternal grandparents - Martin & Katherine (Gerads) Schoenberg.

After they married, Al & Lizzie Ellering owned & operated the farm that belonged to Al's parents, Bernard "Ben" & Anna (Lois) Ellering. The family farm is located in the southern portion of Section 21 & 22 of Grove Township in Stearns County, MN. In Section 22, there is a body of water named after the owner of the propoerty: Ellering's Lake.

It was on this farm that Al & Lizzie Ellering raised thier 5 children:

- Joseph B. Ellering - Ann Mary Roehrl - Anthony B. Ellering - Alphonse J. Ellering - Mary E. Latzka Jacobs

Al & Lizzie Ellering sold the family farm to their son, Anthony "Tony" Ellering & his wife Mary Margaret (Gross) Ellering. When Tony & Mary Margaret retired, the farm was sold to thier son. In 2012, the Ellering farm remains in the Ellering family and is classified as a Century Farm in Stearns County Minnesota.

Al Ellering died on February 11, 1968 in Melrose, MN. He is buried in Plot 60 in Row 7 of Section E. Al's sister, Agnes (Ellering) Worms and her husband, Lambert Worms, are buried in Row 8, directly behind Al and Lizzie.
