About Ambrose Emery

Source - Rev. Rufus Emery, Genealogical Records of Descendants of John and Anthony Emery of Newbury, Mass. 1590 - 1890, The (1890, Salem Publishing and Printing Co. The Salem Press, 1891), pg. 27.

Ambrose Emery was a farmer and resided in Dracut, Ma., Philadelphia, Pa., Thompsonville, Washington, Pa., Mifflin co., Pa.[formed in 1789] and Greene co., Pa.

He was a soldier in the British service in the French and Indian War and was mustered into the service 11 Oct. 1756; in Capt. Butterfield's co. The Dracut, Ma. History by Colburn says the enlistment date was 26 Jul. 1756 at Ft. Edwards and listed him as being 26 and a husbandman, hired. He was in the Crown Point Expedition and was reported on one of the muster rolls of the company as "killed or taken"; this was a mistake, but he was wounded by an arrow.

Ambrose was in the Boston Tea Party (in 1773, it seems very unlikely that he would have traveled all the way from Philadelphia for this, but what proof Rufus Emery and others of the Genealogical committee or family had is unknown).

His home was within hearing distance of the Battle of Brandywine. Ambrose's wife, Rebecca, cooked the soldiers' rations in one of the winter camps of George Washington's Army and Ambrose furnished food and supplies to the American soldier's at the Battle of Brandywine.

Ambrose was a private 6th class in the 3rd Battalion 1st co. Philadelphia co., Pa. under Capt. Israel Jones ordered out 16 Aug. 1780. He died near Jefferson Township, Greene County, PA.

A Patriot of the American Revolution for PENNSYLVANIA with the rank of Private. DAR Ancestor # A036530
