About Ruth Emery

This Ruth Watson was not the daughter of John watson and Ruth Giffen. Further research on the Ruth Watson that was the daughter of John Watson and Ruth Griffen pretty much shows she was NOT the wife of James Emery .

A New England genealogical record shows John and Ruth Watson's daughter Ruth was baptized in Nov 1707, presumably the same year of her birth (as previously mentioned). John Watson died in 1710 and Ruth Griffen Watson married Thomas Ayer in 1716 [Sailsbury vital records pg. 509 as Wattson (Watson) Ruth [wid int] and Thomas Ayers of Haverhill, Nov. 14, 1716 nctbk*] and removed to Haverhill, Mass.

The Ruth Ayer that was the wife of Thomas Ayer, along with an unnamed daughter, was killed in an Indian massacre in about 1719 in Haverhill. Ruth's daughter Ruth was about 11 or 12 years of age at the time of the massacre and was probably still living with her mother. [The history of Haverhill, Massachusetts : from its first settlement, in 1640, to the year 1860 pg. 225]

I have not found any individual records of John and Ruth Watson's daughter Ruth after the date of her baptism.

This does not solve the mystery of the Ruth Watson that married James Emery, but it should eliminate the daughter of John Watson and Ruth Griffen

There is a sketch on this family in [http://dunhamwilcox.net/me/me_bio_watson.htm The Genealogical and Family History of the State of New Hampshire ] of this couple only one child is mention in it as follows

The name is exceedinly numerous in America, no less than eighteen different Watsons, five of them bearing the name of John, having come to the new world between 1623 and 1635. Few families have so early and comprehensive a representation in this country, but in many cases the record is very scanty.

(I) John Watson and Ruth Griffin were married at Amesbury, Mass., March 22, 1687. Among their children was Ebenezer, mentioned below.<br/>

(II) Ebenezer, son of John and Ruth (Griffin) Watson, lived at Newbury, Mass., and married Martha Rawlins.
