About Nalapat Ammini Amma Nalapat
Mother Nalapat Kalliani Kutty (Kochu Amma) Father Chittanjoor Valiya Kunjunni Raja Thampuran sister Nalapat Balamani Amma Uncle Nalapat Narayana Menon A staunch Gandhian and follower of Sarvodaya movement Ammini Amma as a teenager had donated all her gold ornaments to Mahathma Gandhi when he came to Guruvayur. She was the Chairman of the Project Implementing committee of the Block development scheme of Nehruvian era . Taught Amber charka to generate employment to women , and took active part in Indian National Congress and its works with her husband. She was active in applying for old age pension of destitutes of the area and in running Anganawadis in Andathode. Unlike her sister Balamani Amma , she gave less importance to Literature and more importance to uplifting of her village by various social activities. Yet she found time to write and publish a few books for children. Her biography Anpe Sivam is very simple and hearttouching. It was her passion to cultivate Ayurvedic herbs in her garden and apply the medicines whenever needed to her household. It was her love for history of Thalappally Kovilakam (her father's house) which is the ancient Mooshakavansa of kerala that kindled interest in Subaltern history in her second daughter Dr Suvarna Nalapat
