Anders Larsson Bergstedt

Ulla Runström is the 1st wife of Anders Bergstedt from Hackvads parish. Anders becomes a Scholar and graduates from uppsala University in 1783.

Anders and Ulla Bergstedt become early and very important residents on the Swedish Colony at Gustavia on the Island of Saint Barthélemy ( Saint Bart's) in the Caribbean.

Anders in Notorius and He is the Chief Magistrate and Judge and Newspaper publisher, He is in charge of recording the Slave Trade and all of the Free Trade that come to and from the Island in the late 1780 and 1790's.

There are pirates and lot of political turmoil during the time in the Caribbean. Anders Bergsted and His colleague Samuel Fahlberg both become Military Generals of the Islands Militia. In 1810, they fail in their cause and the King of Sweden.

In 1813, King Gustav III sentances both Samuel Fahlberg and Anders Bergsted to be Ececuted and Sentanced to death for treason. Both Men flea the Island and dies alone in exhile.

Ulla Runström Bergstedt, Stays alone in Saint Bart's waiting for Her husbands return, She waits several years. Assuming that Her husband is lost at Sea or killed by Pirates. She brings back to Sweden with Her a "Mullato" son of Ander's whom He had fathered with a slave girl. Unfortunately on the way home to Sweden, Ulla's ship was raided by Pirates, but she survived but most of Her wealth was stolen. And when she and Anders Son return to Sweden the Son dies soon after His arrival. My Mormor reports that Ulla came home to Sweden poor and lived a loney life until she died, and that she did not have any children of Her own. Ulla passed down to my Mormor 2 Silver spoons, one with the initials "U.B." which we remember Her by.

Anders return to Sweden after King Gustaf III dies, He tells other that He is a Widow and He marries a 2nd Wife Carolina Charlotta Pihlgren, the daughter of Medical Doctor Johan Pihlgren, and Charlotta is the Nice of the very famous Carl Micheal Bellman the Muscian and Poet.

Anders has to ask the King directly for permission to marry Carolina Charlotta Pihlgren, ( because He is not Divorced, and He cannot prove that he is a Widow). The realitity is that Anders Abandoned His 1st Wife Ulla and several illigitable slave children.

During the time that Anders Returns to marry His 2nd wife, Ulla is alive in Sweden still believing to Her death that She is a Widow and that her husband was lost at Sea.

That is the story my (Robin Ann ECKERT) Mormor Martha Katarina Carlsson Östlind, passed down with the Silver spoon with the initials "U.B."
