Andrew Jack (a) was born as Andrew Allan. He was the illegitimate son of Elizabeth Allan. In 1859, he became known as Andrew Jack after his mother's marriage to Andrew Jack.

In 1881, he married Jeanie Scott Pollock Jackson in Stonehouse, South Lanarkshire, Scotland.

In 1891, Andrew Jack was a widower and living in Stonehouse, South Lanarkshire, Scotland with his children, Andrew, Jr, age 10, James, age 8, Jeanie, age 6, and Elizabeth, age 2. They were living with his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Mary Jackson.

On 16 September 1892, Andrew Jack, aged 34 years, died in a quarry accident that crushed him between the buffers of a shunting engine and a wagon in Stonehouse. After his accidental death, his children were raised by Mary and James Jackson in Stonehouse, Scotland.
