Jane Scott Pollock Jack was born July 8, 1886 in Stonehouse, South Lanarkshire, Scotland, daughter of Andrew and Jeanie Scott Pollock (Jackson) Jack. Like her mother, she became known as "Jeanie".
In her Jack family, she is the sister of Andrew, Jr. (1882); James Jackson (1884) and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Allan (1888) Jack.
In 1890, her mother died and, after her father's accidental death in 1892, Jeanie and her siblings were raised by their aunt and uncle, Mary and James Jackson, in Stonehouse.
In November 1909 at age 23, she immigrated from Scotland on the ship "Hesperian" to the port at Quebec City, Quebec, Canada (a), then on to Vancouver to be married to Henry Semple, age 28 and occupation of miner, already living in Canada for 5 months. On November 16, 1909, Jeanie, married Henry Semple, performed by Rev. H.W. Fraser at 400 E. Cordova St., Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (b). Witnesses were William Flockhart and Jeanie Gillespie, both of Vancouver. Their religious association was Presbyterian.
They became the parents of Henry "Hank", Jr. (1911); James (1912); Mary (1914); Janet S. (1916) and Anna Semple who died during the flu epidemic (circa 1918).
In 1923, the Semple family moved to Miami, Florida. In 1926, they had to quickly seek shelter when one of the worst hurricanes on record destroyed their house (c). In 1935, they lived at 161 N.W. 52nd St., Miami, Dade County, Florida (d).
In Miami, Jeanie would get on the bus by herself and go to shop at Burdine's store and would buy Coty products which included cosmetics, perfumes, powders, etc. One day she was looking for Coty powder, she asked, in her thick Scottish brogue, for "Cooty" powder and made all the salesclerks really laugh (e).
On November 6, 1966 at age 80, Jane "Jeanie" Scott Pollock (Jack) Semple died in Miami with burial in Southern Memorial Park, Section 5, Lot 290, Space 2A, 15000 West Dixie Hwy, North Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida.
