About Andrew Kilpatrick

He wasn't a doctor. He was a school master. He taught in the same school for 23 years. As far as we know there isn't a single record denoting the middle name Robert. You are confusing him with his grandson Dr Andrew Robert Kilpatrick. The year of his death.

A Patriot of the American Revolution for NORTH CAROLINA  with the rank of Ensign. DAR Ancestor #   A065849

Andrew Kilpatarick was listed on the tax rolls for Captain caldwell's district Rowan County N. C. He lived most of his married life on the "south side of the "South Yadkin River" in what is present day Iredell Co., NC. He was according to one family tradition a "school master' for 22 years in one house. At one time, he was the "County Registrar" if not the first Registrar of Deeds in Iredell Co. N.C. He was also a Revolutionary War Soldier (ref 631,002) He was listed in the 1790 and 1800 census for Iredell Co. N. C.

Martha Terrell Masters noted: Rev. Soldier.

Andrew Kilpatrick was among a list of charter members of the BethanyPresbyterian Church in Iredell County, NC.

Excerpt of "KILPATRICKS" by H. K. Baumeister:

Over one hundred years ago Rev. Dr. James Hines Kilpatrick of Green County, Georgia began to trace his Kilpatrick family back to their origins in America. He could not proceed past Andrew Kilpatrick (A. K.)of Rowan County, North Carolina, who married (first) Jane Nichols (RowanCo. marriage bond 12 Nov. 1772). When the churchyard at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Iredell County, N. C. was extensively repaired in 1924 the broken marker for the grave of A. K. was found and renewed by Dr. William Heard Kilpatrick of New York City, who had inherited his father's interest in the family history. The stone, as it now stands, isin error for A. K. died in 1814. A great deal of work spreading over many states during the last century has not extended the line back beyondA. K.

Excerpt from BURKE'S AMERICAN FAMILIES WITH BRITISH ANCESTRY, p. 2776:

Lineage--The Founder of this family in America is believed to have been ANDREW KILPATRICK, of Ulster, Ireland, who probably emigrated to Pennsylvania, and later to N. Carolina, about the middle of the 18th century, where, with a brother, Joseph and other relations, he settled in Iredell Co., N.C., in 1772; b. 1746; m. 1st 22 Nov. 1772, Jane Nichols, and 2ndly Mrs. Elizabeth Barr, and d. 27 Mar 1814, leaving issue by his first wife.

Excerpt from AN ACCOUNT OF THE KILPATRICK FAMILY, William H. Kilpatrick,November 23, 1943:

Our ancestor, the furthest back we can trace, was Andrew Kilpatrick, who first appeared (it is said) at a place in Rowan County, North Carolina, now called Linwood, but referred to in 1756 as the "Jersey (Irish)Settlement." It is easy to believe that this particular Scotch-Irish group came to North Carolina by way of New Jersey. It seems probably that Andrew himself did not arrive until about 1770, but whether from Pennsylvania or New Jersey or elsewhere we don't know. The first certain date regarding him is his marriage on 12 November 1772 to Jane Nichols in(then)Rowan County. Joshua Nichols signed the bond, and I myself incline to the opinion that he was her father. Andrew lived, so far as appears, most of his married live at the "Kilpatrick Ford" on the south side oft he South Yadkin River in what is now Iredell County. He was, according to one family tradition, a schoolmaster for twenty-two years in onehouse, and this seems probable. At one time he was, it seems certain, registrar of deeds in Iredell County. He was an elder in the BethanyPresbyterian Church, which is about nine miles north of Statesville. Heis buried in the Bethany churchyard where a renewed stone says that he"departed this life March 27, 1813, aged 68." With the help of others, Iwas the one to have this stone erected, and I am now satisfied that itshould read 1814. He would then have been born (in 1745 or 1746, thatis,) at a time between Mar 28 1745 and March 26, 1746.

Andrew had a brother Joseph who appears along with Andrew in the census of 1790 in the "Salisbury district, Iredell County." It seems almost certain that another brother, name unknown, possibly Elihu, lived inVirginia; and that other relatives lived in that general region. The descent of Joseph's children are the only Kilpatrick kin outside of Andrew's descendants whose precise relationship we can state.
