Anne Ridgely was born between 1686 and 1691 in Maryland to Capt. Henry Ridgely, III, and his wife, Catherine Greenberry. When her father died in 1700, he willed half of "Huntington Quarter" to Anne and her heirs.

She married Joshua Dorsey, Sr., May of 1711, in Maryland. They had ten children: 1. Hon. Henry Dorsey, Sr. 2. Capt. Philemon Dorsey, Sr. 3. Rachael Dorsey 4. Elizabeth Dorsey 5. Joshua Dorsey, Jr. 6. Nicholas Dorsey 7. Catherine Dorsey 8. Anne Dorsey 9. Sarah Rachel Dorsey 10. Charles Dorsey

Joshua and Anne were members of Christ Church at Queen Caroline Parish, along with Anne's brother, Col. Henry Ridgely, Jr.

Joshua served as Justice of Baltimore County and Captain of the Elk Ridge Militia, but toward the end of his life he was plagued by ill health and asked to be relieved of his public responsibilities.

Anne was widowed when Joshua died in 1747. She was as an executor of his will, along with two of their sons. He bequeathed to her, "the dwelling plantation 'Major's Choice' of 250 acres, negroes and other personalty." Joshua's personal estate was appraised at £1,263/9/6, including among other personalty a library and 18 slaves.

Anne Ridgely Dorsey died, November of 1771, aged 83. It is assumed that she was buried on the family plantation. Her will was dated 17 October 1771, and probated in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, on 11 December 1771.

"To daughter Sarah Dorsey, £80 and negroes. To son Joshua £25 and named his executor. To son Nicholas plantation whereon he lived ‘Hunting Quarter.' To granddaughter Sarah Ridgely £12. The residue of the estate was to be divided into 8 parts and distributed as follows: Philemon, Joshua, Nicholas, Elizabeth Dorsey, Rachel Warfield, Sarah Dorsey, all children of the testatrix, to four grandchildren Charles, Vachel, Henry and Ariana of deceased son Henry, and the unnamed children of her deceased daughter Anne Ridgely."

The appraisement of Anne's personal estate amounted to £520/5/7, including seven slaves, a Book on Common Prayer and other books.
