About Ann McCartney
South Bend News-Times, Mon., Oct. 16, 1922, p. 4: "Mrs. Ann McCartney, 82 years old, a well known resident of this city, died at her home, 712 E. Jefferson blvd., yesterday morning, death having resulted from an extended illness with complications. She had been a resident of this city for the past 50 years. "Mrs. McCartney was first taken ill about nine months ago and had been confined to her bed the greater part of the time since. "She was born in Ireland, on May 24, 1840 and came to South Bend 50 years ago from there. In this city she had lived with her husband, James M. McCartney at the residence on Jefferson blvd. during all her years here. "She had been an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic church, having been actively affiliated with several of the church societies for many years. She leaves a great number of friends in this city. "In addition to her husband, she leaves two sons, James M. Jr. and Edward J., and two sisters (sic: daughters), Mrs. Mary Thorpe, and Miss Nellie McCartney, all residing in this city. One brother, Joseph E, Mulligan of Clay township, and a sister, Miss Elizabeth Mulligan of this city, also survive. Because of devotional services being held at St. Joseph's church, the funeral will be held at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic church Tuesday morning, Rev. William Maloney, C. S. C., officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Grove cemetery."* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Oct 8 2020, 1:07:51 UTC
