About Ann Roote

Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Rushall-27

Not the daughter of Sir Francis Russell, Lord Russell, MP & Juliana Russell

Ann Rushall, sometimes called Russell, was baptized at Badby, Norhampsonshire, England on 16 July 1579. She marred John Root Sr on 23 JUL 1600 at Badby, Northamptonshire, England, United Kingdom.[1] She died at Badby or Milton Malsor, Northamptonshire, England, United Kingdom

Parish records for Badby, Northamptonshire (Source: "Northamptonshire, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1532-1812") show three different daughters named Ann Rushall baptized at Badby in the correct time period. However, it is the Ann Rushall (bp. 16 July 1579, Badby) who married John Roote Sr. She was daughter of Henrie Rushall and Winifred Balle. This is proven by the will of Winifred (Balle) Rushall (dated 15 Apr 1620) which refers to Ann Roote as her daughter AncestryImage

Family

Their children:

Alternate dob: 18 APR 1574

Mary Ann Russell born 1574 married John Roote

Name Russell from the French signifying red-haired, some what reddish carrot color. The ancestry of the family has been traced to Sigurd King Turstain, King of Sweden in 735. In thirteenth generation from Turstain William Bertrand was with his son, Hugh, at the Battle of Hastings. The latter inherited the castle of Rozel in England, was corrupted in the twelfth century to Russell.

The above information was from Directory of Ancestral Heads of New England Families, 1620-1700. Compiled by Frank R. Holmes, 1980.

Biography

Francis Russell was born in Northamptonshire, England.

Francis Russell, Baron Russell (c.1554 – 27 July 1585), MP for Northumberland, from 1572-1584; mortally wounded in a fray on the Scottish border, dying hours before his father.[2] He married Juliana Foster and had issue, including Edward Russell, 3rd Earl of Bedford.[1]
Research Notes

Although many online trees claim that he had a daughter Mary Anne Russell who was married to John Roote, that daughter is a fabrication who apparently never existed. Mary Anne Russell was supposedly at Badby on 18 April 1574, but that actual baptism record says "Ann daughter of Tho: & Ann Rushall". Clearly not daughter of Francis Russell.

Ann Roote formerly Rushall aka Root
Born about 16 Jul 1579 in Badby, Northamptonshire, England

Ann Rushall was baptized at Badby, Northampsonshire, England on 16 July 1579. [1]

She married John Roote Sr on 23 July 1600 at Badby, Northamptonshire.[2] She apparently had to get married, since their first child was born less than 5 months after the wedding.

The "children of Ann Roote" were mentioned in the 1620 will of her mother Winifred, but only Ann's children were given bequests, so Ann was presumably dead. Ann presumably died at Badby or Milton Malsor, Northamptonshire, England, United Kingdom.

This is proven by the will of Winifred (Balle) Rushall (dated 15 April 1620) which refers to Ann Roote as her daughter. Ancestry Online

The first Ann Rushall was baptized on 04 November 1572 at Badby (daughter of William Rushall). The second one on that same page is another Ann Rushall baptized at Badby on 18 April 1574 (daughter of "Tho: & Ann Rushall"; not Francis Russell as claimed on many internet trees). https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/collections/9198/images/100342... And on the next page is our Ann Rushall baptized on 16 July 1579 (daughter of Henrie Rushall).

Note: Records online show they have 5 more children:

Josiah Rootes Born Abt 1642, of Badby, Northamptonshire, England

       chr 24 Sep 1648
Bethia rootes Born abt 1644, same place
       chr 26 sep 1648
       Thomas Rootes born abt 1647
chr 16 reb 1651 in Beverly, Essex, Massachusetts, US
Jonathan Rootes born abt 1648, same place
Susannah Rootes born abt 1648, same place
       chr 24 Sep 1648
This would put Ann Rushall around 70 years old, so one of the PMs deleted them.
