John Roote, of Farmington

John Roote was born on February 26th, 1608 in Badby, Northants, England, Eng. and his baptism took place on September 24th, 1608 in Farmington Congr, Congregationalch, Hartford, Ct.

John's father was John ROOTE and his mother was Mary Ann RUSSELL.

His paternal grandfather was Thomas ROOTE and his paternal grandmother is Ann BURRELL; his maternal grandparents were Francis RUSSELL and Anne FORRESTER.

He had five brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, Thomas, Josiah, Thomas, Jonathan, Thomas, Mary, Marie, Susannah, Bethia and Susannah.

He died at the age of 76 on August 16th, 1684 in Farmington, Hartford, Ct.

John Root joined a group of Puritans who came to America in 1640. And it was bout that time that he married Mary Kilbourne who was born in Cambridgeshire, England, in 1619. She came to America in the ship, Increase, in 1635 and died in Farmington, Connecticut, in 1697. John Root died in August 1684 at Farmington, CT

According to Mr. Jesse Root, as quoted in J. P. Root's "Root Genealogical Records," John was a Puritan who lived with a paternal uncle after his father's death. This uncle later adopted John. The uncle was a wealthy man, possibly of noble birth, advanced in years, and a zealous opponent of popery [the Catholic church]. He insisted that John go into the Parliamentary army under Cromwell, to fight against Charles I and the Catholics. John had an aversion to war, and chose instead to join a company of Puritans who were going to America. He was one of the first settlers of Farmington, CT, in 1640. He and his wife were members of the Farmington Congregational church. At his death, he left what was considered then a good estate valued at £819.
