About Anna Cornelia van Gogh
Anna Cornelia van Gogh went to boarding school in Leeuwarden, and lived in England from 1874 to 1876, first in London and then in Welwyn, where she taught French. In 1877 she became a lady’s companion with the Van Houten family in Hengelo, and in 1878 married the son of the house, the shell-lime manufacturer Joan Marius van Houten. They had two daughters.
