About Anna Maria Welker

Anna Maria (Reed) Welker, we are led to believe, died soon after the birth of her only child, Jacob Welker. The young son was reared by members of the Welker family, possibly by his grandparents, George and Margretha Welker. He was given a liberal education for those days, reared as a farmer, but learned the milling trade with his uncles, George and Jacob Welker. They at the time owned and operated a flouring, grist and saw mill, erected on the old Welker homestead farm, abutting that of their father, on Perkiomen Creek, in Upper Hanover Township, Philadelphia.
