A Patriot of the American Revolution for PENNSYLVANIA with the rank of Private. DAR Ancestor # A122003
Dr. Reed (In the Reed Family History) credits Michael with service in the Revolution, as a member of the Upper Hanover militia, first under Captain Lower and later under Capt. Henry Maurer.
Mikhail (Michael) Welker (b. 1727, d. 1799)
Mikhail (Michael) Welker (son of Johannes (Hans/Johann) George (Welcher) Welker and Anna Margaretha Zimmerman) was born 1727 in Heildelberg, Baden, Wuerttemberg, Germany, and died 1799 in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland Co, PA. He married (1) Anna Maria Reed on Abt. 1752 in PA, daughter of Johann Ried and Feronica Berckysin. He married (2) Elizabeth [?] Wagoner on Abt. 1780 in Upper Hanover Township, PA.
Notes for Mikhail (Michael) Welker: From notes of Katrina Kerrick Sullivan..............................................................
6. MIKHAIL MICHAEL5 WELKER (JOHANNES (HANS/JOHANN) GEORG (WELCKER)4, HANS3, JOHANNES2, WILHELM1) was born 1727 in Heidelberg, Baden, Wuerttemberg, Germany (Upper Hanover Twp., Montgomery Co., PA), and died 1799 in Hempfield Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA. He married (1) ANNA MARIA REED Abt. 1752 in PA (his mother's name doesnt match up...Weber & Zimmerman...which one??), daughter of JOHANN RIED and FERONICA BERCKYSIN. She was born 1733 in Salford, Montgomery Co., PA, and died in Abt 1760---does not match child John's DOB. He married (2) ELIZABETH Abt. 1780 in Upper Hanover Township, PA. She was born Bet. 1740 - 1745 in PA, and died Bef. 1830 in PA.
Notes for MIKHAIL MICHAEL WELKER: Fightner's Graveyard, in Westmoreland Co., PA, several miles west of the town of Greensburg.
Successively owned two portions of his father's farm, one part being conveyed to him on 03/02/1767 consisting of 185 acres lying in Upper Hanover adn Douglass Townships. The main portion bordered the Perkiomen Creek and he was restrained by terms of the deed from engaging in milling interests in competition with his brother George. This portion was sold on 12/12/1791 to Peter Heist. This removed Michael's name from the tax lists of Upper Hanover and it is probable that Michael had left the community several years before that. Michael was described as a frontiersman, hunter, and trader in the "Reed Family History" and it was only natural that he would settle in Westmoreland County where many new areas were being opened by pioneering settlers. Michael served in the Revolution as a member of the Upper Hanover Milita, first under Captain Lower and later under Captain Henry Maurer.
His parents I've also found as being Hans George Welker b. 02/06/1696/97 in Palatine, Germany & Anna Margaretha Weber b. 04/03/1704 in Germany. Also which is confusing is that in other sources only one child, Jacob w/ his wife Anna Maria Reed & the ones I have listed w/ Elizabeth Wagoner. But yet all those that I have listed, including my Daniel Welker, for Anna Maria Reed. Something just isnt right w/ these wives & his parents. [Rev. John Philip Boehm.FTW]
