Anne Ferreira (1935 - 2018)

Brief overview:

Anne (83), was found strangled and murdered in her Summerstrand home in May 2018. Her badly damaged car was found abandoned near Despatch.

Sizwe Jika (28) is also currently serving a 20 year sentence for the murder of Ann Smit (86). 16 year sentence for housebreakings committed between 2011 and 2018. On 27 August 2020, he was sentenced for the murder of Kelly Bain (26) which he committed in July 2018. He was sentenced as follows: Murder – life imprisonment, Robbery Aggravated – 15 years, Theft - 5 years.

He was also sentenced for eight other housebreaking cases committed between March and September 2018 – 5 years for each totalling 40 years and Illegal possession of ammunition – 1 year. All of these sentences will run concurrent with the life sentence.

The second accused in the Anne Ferreira’s case, Lindile Ndambade (36) will appear in court on 15 April 2021.

  • Jika appeared in the Port Elizabeth magistrates’ court on 28 March 2019, for the murder of Ann Smit. He was also charged in court for the murder of Anne Ferreira. He is positively linked to the third murder through forensic evidence. He is charged with murder, robbery, rape and kidnapping.
  • Jika appeared in court on Monday, 4 February 2019 for 8 other housebreaking cases allegedly committed between March and July 2018 in the Kabega Park, Humewood and Mount Road areas. He was charged in court on this day for the brutal murder of Kelly Bain (26) allegedly committed in July 2018. Once again Jika was linked through DNA evidence.
  • 26/02/2020 Jika was sentenced as follows: 15 years for housebreaking with intent to rob, 10 years for kidnapping, 15 years for robbery aggravating, life sentence for rape and life sentence for murder. All the sentences with run concurrent to the life sentence.
