Anton Joseph Gruenke

Born on the family farm in Dora (Township) in Otter Tail County, MN; Anton Joseph was the youngest of seven children born to Joseph & Rosalia (Bizovoski) Gruenke -- Anton's mother died a few weeks later from complications to his childbirth.

On 14 May 1907, Anton first married Agnes Hofmann at Saint Mary Catholic Church (now Seven Dolors Catholic Church) in Albany, MN. Born 7 May 1887 in Stearns County, MN; Agnes was the oldest of seven children born to John & Anna Hoffmann. Agnes died from pneumonia on 7 January 1917 at age 29.

On 1 June 1919, Anton second married Franciska K. Kalla in Albany, MN; Born 27 November 1887, she was the daughter of Robert & Mary Kalla. Frances died in Albany on 3 August 1968 on Albany at age 80.

A lifelong, self-employed blacksmith & farmer, Anton died of old age on 10 March 1985 in Albany at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home; age 104. From his obituary (with edits) published in the Saint Cloud Times on 14 March 1985:

"Survivors include sons and daughters, Harry, Mrs. Dolores Wellenstein, Virgil and Tony Jr., Albany; Mrs. Clarence [Viola] Fahnhorst, Minneapolis; Mrs. Al [Elenore] Thielen, Little Falls; Mrs. Hortence Graham, Lakewood, Calif.; Werner, Rochester; Gumpert, Brooklyn Center; Pirmin, Plymouth; Mrs. Stan [Ruth] Kozlowski, St. Paul; Mrs. Bill [Bernice] Steffens, Maple Grove; 45 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

"Anton was a member of Saint Joseph Society and was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and a son, Alfred. Pallbearers will be his grandsons."
