Agnes Gruenke

Agnes was the second of thirteen children {three daughters & ten sons} born to Joseph & Anna (Auer) Hofmann.

On 14 May 1907, Agnes married Anton Joseph Gruenke at Saint Mary Catholic Church (now Seven Dolors Catholic Church) in Albany, MN. Born on the family farm in Dora (Township) in Otter Tail County, MN; Anton was the youngest of seven children born to Joseph & Rosalia (Bizovoski) Gruenke -- Anton's mother died a few weeks later from complications to his childbirth.

A homemaker & mother of five, Agnes died 7 January 1917 at age 29; cause of death = pneumonia. From her obituary (with edits), which was published in the Saint Cloud Times:

"Mrs. Anton Gruenke [Agnes Hofmann], 29 years of age, mother of five children, the oldest being 8 years of age and the youngest 14 months, died at Saint Raphael's Hospital last evening at 8:30 o'clock. She had been at the hospital since January 2nd.

"Besides her husband, a blacksmith at Albany, and her five children, the deceased is survived by her mother, Mrs. Anna Hoffman of Albany, and eight brothers and two sisters. The brothers are Frank, Bernard [sic, Benedict], Andrew, Rudolph, Leo, Dominik and Berthold of Albany, and Ludwig of St. Cloud. The sisters are Mrs. Alois Lenarz of St. Cloud and Mrs. Andrew Pratschner of Albany.

"Mrs. Gruenke was born in Albany. Her father, Joseph Hoffman, who died two years ago, was one of the early and prominent merchants of that village.

"The remains were shipped to Albany this noon, where burial will take place Wednesday morning at nine o'clock with services at the Church of Seven Dolors. Interment will be made in the parish cemetery."
