Attie (59), retired and farmed with sheep, died in a pool of blood, stabbed in the chest, did not die immediately, but unable to call for help as assailants had taken his cellphone. They gained access through an unlocked door, and fled in Attie’s pick-up which immobilised. Attie’s care worker Mieta Tau last saw him on the Saturday when he gave her a lift home.

  • The trial was initially supposed to mid October 2022 in the High Court in Kimberley, but the proceedings were delayed because Bohelo did not turn up for the court case. Bohelo has since been caught and remains in custody with his co-accused.
  • The case officially began on 23rd October 2022 and is on the court roll until October 28th.
  • Nicardo Hutama (28), who was released on warning, failed to turn up for court proceedings on Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th October 2022. The court issued a warrant for his arrest on Thursday 27th October 2022. Persent was also arrested earlier when he did not show up for his court appearance. Bohelo and Persent are both now in custody.
  • The hearing was adjourned until 7th and 8th March 2023.
  • 29/05/2023: The proceedings could not continue because Nicardo Hutama, who was released on warning, did not turn up for the court case. A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was apprehended. According to a reliable source, Hutama fled to Limpopo. Kerneels Persent was also arrested earlier when he did not show up for his court appearance. Attie's murder took place in the Vaalharts area. It is in the same area where Dan (83), Breggie (73) and Elzabie Brand (54), as well as Ernst Human (87) were killed earlier. "The Vaalharts district agricultural union has always spoken out strongly against farm murders and requested that heavy penalties be imposed for these crimes," says Christelle Stoman, manager of the union. "The government must deal with farm killings with more seriousness and realize that every farmer who is killed or attacked means that not only the immediate family is affected by it, but that many dependents may lose their jobs on the farms because farming is stopped."
