Funeral for Ava Nell Robbins Black (Hyde), 84, of Speake will be Friday, June 17, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Turner, Pastor Francis Proctor and Pastor Brian Culbreath officiating. Burial will be in Aldridge Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Black, who died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at NHC Moulton, was born March 12, 1927, in Lawrence County to James "Jim" Robbins and Ola Johnson Robbins. Ms. Black was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church in Speake. She was a graduate of the first graduating class of Speake High School in 1945. Ms. Black was a beautician in the community of Speake for many years. She also served as a rural mail carrier for the Danville Post Office, where she retired. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Robbins and Jimmy Robbins; and one sister, Dean Curtis.
Survivors include three sons, Phillip Black, Larry Black and Robbin Black, all of Speake; three daughters, Glenda Hembree of Hartselle, Martha and (Jerry) Hill of Speake and Rita and (Pastor Brian) Culbreath of Muscle Shoals; one sister, Hazel Jackson of Speake; 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Wade Hill, Wyatt Hill, Shane Black, Lee Black, Bo Hembree, Micah Culbreath, Lucas Black and Tyler Eddy.
