B. S. Bheema Rao

Bheema Rao was a well-known Professor of Chemistry at the Mysore University and after retirement worked as a Professor of Chemistry at the First Grade College in Konanur. He was endeared by his students for his teaching, his wit and humor. In my autograph book he wrote: "Laugh and the whole world laughs with you; weep and you weep alone"!! Whenever I visited him in his home in Jayanagar 1st Block, he would take me into his special room and demonstrate chemical experiments. I remember him lighting a small piece of magnesium wire to show me the blinding white light it emanated. During his last years, he had a special bond for me since I had decided to take chemistry as my career - the second person in the family to become a chemist!
