Bartholomew Stovall was born in 1732 in Saint James's Parish, Goochland County (present-day Powhatan County), Virginia, a son of John and Dorcas Stovall.

He married

  • (1) Susannah Wilkins in October 1755, and
  • (2) Anna Boswell in 1774.

Father of eighteen children (seven children from his first marriage and eleven children from his second marriage).

Farmer.

Bartholomew Stovall's farm in Granville County, North Carolina was located on the western branches of Jonathan's Creek (present-day Little Johnson Creek) in Country Line District (present-day Oak Hill Township). It was situated adjacent the lands of his brother John Stovall, Jr. (1737 — 1820), who had married Mary Ann Wilkins, the sister of Bartholomew Stovall's first wife Susannah Wilkins.

He died in January 1803 (between the writing of his will on 22 December 1802 and its probate in February 1803) in Orange County, North Carolina.

  • Many believe that Mary Ann Wilkins was the sister to Susannah, Bartholomew's first wife. I have not been able to prove that as of this time.

Bartholomew was a private in the NC Militia during the American Revolution, Information can be found at the NC Historical Commission. Listed in the Historical Register of Virginians in the Revolution by John H Gwathey, p745. Can also be found on the Roster of Soldiers of NC in the DAR files.
