Benjamin was a Friend (Quaker)
In 1885, the work of Franklyn Howland was published, and it said about Benjamin Howland on page 79:

“Benjamin,³ (Zoeth,² Henry,¹) born in Duxbury, 8, 3, 1657; m, 23, 4, 1684, Judith Sampson, probably sister of his brother Daniel's wife. He died in Dartmouth 12, 2, 1727. He was a prominent member of the Apponegansett Friends' Meeting. A minute in the records of that meeting, which bears date 17, 8, 1715, shows the appointment of Deliverance Smith and Benjamin Howland "to get more seats in the gallerys what is called the Round Hills farm in Dartmouth, which has always been and is still held by a descendant. He was a prominent citizen, evidence of which is shown in his frequent selection of responsible positions in town and meetings affairs. He held the offices of selectman and assessor in 1667, was a surveyor of highways in 1698, and constable in 1709. He was appointed treasurer of the monthly meeting fund 19, 9, 1705. His will was dated 1722. He mentions children, Abigail, Desire, Lydia, Isaac, and Barnabas, "living."”

His parents, Zoeth and Abigail Howland, had Benjamin Howland's birth recorded in the Rhode Island Monthly Meeting. According to his birth record, it said, "Howland,.. of Zoar and Abigail, Dartmouth, Benjamin, May 8, 1659."[1] This birth record seemed to add recently after his parents, Zoeth and Abigail Howland moved from Duxbury, Plymouth Colony to Dartmouth, Plymouth Colony, in the spring of 1657 for more congenial society. Clearly, Abigail Howland gave birth to Benjamin Howland on 8 May 1659 in Dartmouth, Plymouth Colony because it was his parents' resident in Dartmouth when his birth was recorded. However, Dartmouth was first settled in 1650 and was officially incorporated in 1664 in Plymouth Colony.[2]

Note: In the register of births of the Dartmouth monthly meeting, it was common for the existing children of a couple to be entered upon their arrival at the meeting. Given that his name was recorded in both locations, Rhode Island and Dartmouth, it's probably that the family moved to Dartmouth after Benjamin's birth.
Benjamin Howland married Judeth Samson on 3 April 1684 in Dartmouth.[3][4][5][6][7] His wife was Judith Sampson who was the proven daughter of Abraham Sampson, but her mother was unknown.[8]

In 11m 1698/9 [Feb 1699], he donated 2£ towards the construction of the Dartmouth meeting house.[9]

Benjamin Howland died 21 Mar 1726/7. The actual year reads 1726/27 since this is pre-Gregorian calendar. [10][4]
