Per "Genealogy of a Branch of the Randall Family, 1666-1879", pg. 153

Very little is known of the life of Benjamin Randall. We find by the Records he was admitted a Freeman, of Colchester, Ct., 6th Dec., 1763, but probably he was several years before this date.

A grandson, (Mr. Joseph Randall,) (1778), now living in Janesville, Wis., is our authority for giving Stonington as the birthplace of all his children, the youngest of which was born 1758. his son Rufus was married in Colchester, 1757, and his daughter Mary in 1760. Sylvestor is mentioned in the Town Records of 1762. By these it may be presumed that his settlement in Colchester was not far from 1755-6.

We have found the tracing of his descendants exceedingly difficult and the results quite unsatisfactory in some cases, as will be seen by the records, in the omission of a number of families, and the want of dates in others.

During the later years of 1700 and the early part of 1800, A.D., the greater share of his descendants removed to Albany, Herkimer, Oswego, Otsego, Chenango and Monroe Counties, new York; and Benjamin, Jr., settled in Shelburne, Mass.

He is represented as possing great physical powers and endurance, and some of his dealings with the lawless and troublesome elements of the half-formed society in this new country are repeated at the present time, as "reminiscences of early days of Colchester."

He died 15th June, 1811, aged 96 years and 13 days. His descendants are more numerous than those of either of his elder brothers, John, 3rd, and Nathan, and are if possible more widely scattered.

=========================================================================

Benjamin also had a twin brother, Joseph, who died a few days after birth. His burial is unknown.

=========================================================================

Benjamin and Ruth Brown Randall had ten known children:
1. Ruth Randall Gates (1731-1813) 2. Elias Randall (1734-1799) 3. Sylvester Randall (1736-1808) 4. Rufus Randall (1738-1822) 5. Mary Randall Tennant (1740-?) 6. Benjamin Randall, Jr. (1742-1828) 7. Amos Randall(1744-1802) 8. Sarah Randall Gardner (1746-1840) 9. Asa Randall (1751-1834) 10. Joseph Randall (1758-1816)

John moved to London so he could become a silk manufacturer. In the troublesome reign of Charles II, owing to the plague, the fire of London & a report of Dutch invasion, John with his wife and baby left Clerkenwell, Saint James Parish, London in 1667 & followed Elizabeth's brother, Sir William Morton to America. They first settled at Newport, Rhode Island and by 1669 was a free inhabitant at Westerly. They later removed to Stonington, Connecticut but returned to his residence at Westerly because of religious differences in the two communities. He owned about 300 acres of land. John was a farmer & is said to have belonged to the Seventh Day Baptist Church. In 1685, his widow, Elizabeth petitioned to be allowed to improve deceased husband's lands.

Benjamin also had a twin brother, Joseph, who died a few days after birth. His burial is unknown.
