Benno Bodenheimer was a Jewish Tailor, who ran a wholesale and retail menswear store (Herrenkleiderfabrik) in Heidelberg. His address in 1901 was right in the heart of the downtown shopping district, with residence above the store. Hauptstraße 8, Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. By 1915, the firm had moved to Bahnhofstraße 33, Heidelberg.
Married three times:
Benno was born in Waibstadt, Germany on March 21, 1845, and died in Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany at age 73 on August 20, 1918. There is a German Emigration site at http://www.auswanderer-bw.de/auswanderer/index.php?sprache=en&suche=1 that lists a Benno Bodenheimer leaving in 1893 -- probably not the same Benno? Benno's first-born was born in Heidelberg in 1874.
He is buried at the Jüdische Friedhöfe at Bergfriedhof Cemetery in Heidelberg.
His parents names are unknown at this time. He did have a brother: Bernhardt Bodenheimer
Benno was married three times, first to Mathilda Gruenwald, second to Elsa (maiden name unknown), then lastly to Rosa (aka Bianca) Loeb.
Benno had 9 children in total, at least one with each of his three wifes: Selma Uhlfelder, Siegmund Bodenheimer, Ludwig (Louis) Bodenheimer, and Bertha Loeb were born to his first wife, Mathilda; Mina Lauchheimer, and a daughter who died very young, were born to Elsa; and Flora Frank, Bella Rosenzweig, and Klara Ruben were born to his third wife, Rosa.
Benno's son, Siegmund wrote, "My father was a man of great integrity of character, of unusual modesty and humility. Like every breath of his life was for the welfare of his children, so all of his children clung to him with great love. His memory is kept by me and my siblings in high honor."
---------------------------------------------------------------
Siegmund was born on 22 November 1874 in Heidelberg (Baden, Germany) as the second child of the marriage Benno Bodenheimer and Matilda, born Gruenwald, who sprung the entire 4 children, 2 daughters and 2 sons.
Matilda died already in 1880 when Siegmund was 5 ½ years old.
Benno was married twice more. From the equally few years of the second marriage two girls were born, one of whom died very young. Benno's third marriage brought 3 other girls.
