Bodegisel II (Borogiso II of Aquitaine, Bodegiesel II, Governor of Aquitaine) was born 565 C.E. in Aquitaine, France. He was the Governor of Aquitaine. He died about 610 C.E. in Carthage, Africa, being murdered while returning from an embassy Constantinople.

His ancestry is uncertain but it seems certain he was a grandson of Mundéric de Cologne (Weis, Ancestral Roots 190:7). He was traditionally regarded as the son of Bodegisel I, but Kelley pointed out the exceptional rarety of a son named after his father at this period, and suggested that he was a nephew rather than son of Bodegisel I. Settipani suggests that he was a son of Gondulfus de Tongres. Other reconstructions make him a son of Mundéric's unnamed daughter and Mummolin (Colonial & Revolutionary Lineages in America 18:236-38).

    Bodegisel II Governor of Aquitaine was the son of Saint Gondoule Governor of Marseilles, Mayor of the Palace, and Bishop of Tongres and unknown.1,2 Weis (1976) gives Bodegeisel I, the brother of Gondolfus, as Bodegisel II's father. Bodegisel II was the Governor of Aquitaine.

There is even controversy about Bodegisel II being our ancestor. The father of our ancestor Arnulf was either this Bodegisel II of Aquitaine or Arnoldus of Metz. His mother was Ada of Swabia, considered the wife of either Bodegisel or of Arnoldus (or maybe of both). The tree in this program allows only one possibility, and I have chosen Bodegisel as the father in the tree. But here is the alternative ancestry: Arnulf's father was instead Arnoldus of Metz, b. ca. 535 (who married Ada of Swabia, just as Bodegisel apparently did); Arnoldus's parents were Senator Ansbertus of Gaul and Blithilde (of unknown parentage); Ansbertus's father was Tontantius of Rome; his father was Tontantius Ferreolus; his parents were Ferreolus of Rome and an unnamed daughter of Arfianus; her father was Afrianus Syragrius.

There is another, very improbable tradition that the parents of Arnoldus of Metz were not Ansbertus and Blithilde but rather UNKNOWN and Bertha of Kent (Saint Bertha) (539-ca. 612), who (at some point) had also been married to King Æthelbert of Kent (ca. 552-616); this Saint Bertha was daughter of the Merovingian king, Charibert I of Paris (ca. 517-567) and so descended from that line, including King Clovis of the Franks, our ancestor from a different line) and all the way back to the legendary founder of that dynasty, King Merovech of the Salian Franks. Included in this improbable five-generation ancestry were kings of Thuringia and Burgundy (many of whom are our ancestors from a different line).

It's even more complicated than that. The father of our presumed ancestor Bodegisel II was either Bodegisel I of Aquitaine or Saint Gondolfus (Gandalf), apparently brothers of each other. His mother was apparently Palatrina of Troyes (married to either of the possible fathers or to both of them). The tree in this program assumes Bodegisel I was the father, so here is the alternative: Saint Gondolfus, b. 545, d. 599 in Bourges, was the son of Munderic of Cologne (Lord of Vitry) and Arthemia of Perthois, who were also the parents of Bodegisel I, so the program's tree reflects the parentage from that point onward.

He appears to have been Governor of Aquitaine, and was murdered at Carthage returning from an Embassy to Constantinople, 588.

Bodogisel is a noble Frankish Austrasia, brother and son of Duke Babon Mummolin , Count Soissons. Sent an embassy to Constantinople in 589 , he stopped in Carthage where the mob killing. Babon his brother is known to have also sent an embassy to Constantinople in 585. According to many historians, it is likely the father of Arnulf of Metz 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 and thus the ancestor of Arnulfiens and Carolingians 5 .
