Stories heard over the years. Burdette lied about his age to join the service. He had a horrible childhood. His father had really treated him and Carter badly. He worked on the Panama Canal and the Hoover Dam as did Carter. When Burdette came home on leave one time, he found a building on fire and a child inside. He saved the child and burned his face. Once playing canasta cards on a New Years Eve on Roanoke, Burdette accidently burned Lorrie's arm with his cigarette..
IThe memorial card states the death date was the 9 November 1970. ler
