Age 92.
DEATH: February 7, 2010 in Pueblo, Colorado.
BIRTH: 1917, Henry, West Virginia and raised in Kempton, Maryland, second oldest of six children.
CIVILIAN CONSERVATION CORPS: Joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, construction of Camp David, Maryland.
MILITARY: Enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 and was stationed at Schofield barracks on Oahu, Hawaii, where he witnessed the attack on Pearl Harbor of December 7, 1941. Corporal, Serving in the 25th Infantry "Tropic Lightning" Division, he fought in the Guadalcanal campaign and was wounded in New Georgia. Convalescing at the Fort Sam Houston military hospital near San Antonio, Texas, he met Eunice "Jeri" Tullos, a nurse's aide who became his wife.
MARRIAGE: Eunice "Jeri" Tullos.
EDUCATION: 1945, enrolled on the G.I. Bill at the University of Colorado in Boulder, where he completed his bachelor's and master's degree.
GEOLOGY INSTRUCTOR: 1956, he accepted a position as instructor of Geology at what was then known as Pueblo Junior College, Pueblo, Colorado.
RETIREMENT, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR EMERITUS: 1980 as associate professor emeritus from what is now known as Colorado State University-Pueblo. Pueblo, Colorado.
MEMBER: Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, long-time member of the Colorado Mountain Club, the Rockhounds, and the Pueblo Historical Society. Pueblo, Colorado dance groups.
PRECEDED IN DEATH by older brother Stanley who died in infancy during the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918. Preceded in death by brothers Francis, John, and Ray, and his sister Elizabeth, by his wife Jeri Jurie, and his daughter, Cherie Lyn Jurie Zwick.
AMONG SURVIVORS: Son Jay (Cindy) Jurie of Sanford, Fla. and by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Cremation.
MEMORIAL SERVICE will be announced in the near future.
