About Captain Asa Robinson, Jr.

Asa Robinson, Jr. was born in Windham County, Connecticut on June 6, 1757. He resided in Hampton and Pomfret. Asa, Jr. served with his father in Capt. Steadman Company, Col. John Douglass Regiment of the State of Connecticut. About 1820, he moved to Bethel, Sullivan County, New York with his son Nathan.* He died there on January 6, 1832 and is buried at the Fraser Cemetery (now known as Fulton Cemetery), in the Town of Bethel, near Bushville, Sullivan County, New York. --From the unpublished, "My Personal Genealogy Through The Robinson Line", by Gertrude Seargent Gipson, dedicated to her mother, Fannie Robinson Seargent.

  • Another son, Lewis, and his family also moved to Sullivan County, NY at about the same time.

Note that Asa Robinson Jr. served as a private in the "War of the Revolution", but was known as Capt. Robinson because he was made a Capt. of the 12th Militia, in the 5th Regiment in the State of Connecticut.

One of Capt. Asa's grandsons, Asa Lewis Robinson, a Private in 1st Mass. Cavalry Regt. Co B, was killed in battle during the Civil War in Aldie, VA., on June 17, 1863, and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
