About Capt. Francis West, Deputy Governor

Thiomas West married, on 19 November 1571, Anne Knollys, daughter of Sir Francis Knollys and Catherine Carey, daughter of William Carey, esquire, by whom he had six sons and eight daughters:[3]

Francis West (28 October 1586 – c.1634), esquire, Governor of Virginia, who emigrated to Virginia, and

  • married firstly, before 6 February 1626, Margaret, widow of Edward Blayney, by whom he had -
  • a son, Francis West,
  • and a daughter, Elizabeth West,

and secondly, on 31 March 1628, Temperance Flowerdew (d. December 1628), widow of Sir George Yeardley, Governor of Virginia, daughter of Anthony Flowerdew of Hethersett, Norfolk, by Martha Stanley.[8]

She died in December of the same year, and West fought the orphans (unsuccessfully) for possession of her estate.[4]

He married thirdly Jane Davye.

He wrote his will in 1629 naming his wife Jane, daughter of Henry Davye, Knight; they had not “yet” had children; and his son Francis, a minor. link

In 1632, his estate was in Elizabeth Citie, south of the land of James Knott. According to some records, he died in February 1633/1634, although this is not certain.

His estate was proved on the 28th April 1634 by Jane West, relict and executrix. link
