JONATHAN JENNINGS(possible father of Jonathan), born 1653 in Saybrook, Conn., probably son of Nicholas and Mary (Bedford) Jennings and grandson of John Jennings, original proprietor of Hartford, Conn., In 1639 Nicholas Jennings came in "Francis" from Ipswich, England in 1634, age 22. In 1639-40 the town of Hartford, Conn. voted "that Nicholas Jennings come unto the towne in a certain tyme lymited and to take up his habitation heer, or else his lotts to return unto the townes handes, paying him for the worth of the labour done upon it". He left Hartford between 1650 and 1660. In the administration of his estate 16 Oct. 1673 he is called "sometime of Saybrook". All evidence seen leads to the assumption that he was the father of Jonathan Jennings.
Jonathan was of Lebanon Conn. when he married Susannah Wade, daughter of Robert and Susannah Wade, He was an original proprietor of Windham, Conn. and died there 27 June 1733. Susannah died in 1700 and he md (2) Hannah Abbe and (3) Elizabeth Woodward.

Many Pilgrims of Jennings name and blood found homes in America. Who was the first is diffiicult to say, but we find that NICHOLAS of Hartford, afterward of Saybrook, came over in 1634 in the Francis of Ipswich at age of 22 and a JOHN-either his father or his brother for we believe both came early-came over the next year and settled first at Hartford and later at Southampton, CT. At about the same time, perhaps a year or two later, JOSHUA, who is believed to be another brotheer came and rfecords show also JONATHAN of Norwich, 1684; RICHARD of New London, 1675; SAMUEL of Portsmouth, RI 1655; and STEPHEN of Hatfield, who married Hannah Dickinson, widow of Samuel Gillet who was carried to Canada by the Indians where a daughter was born and named Captivity.
