RKelly added 2-11: from "Gleanings of Virginia History" by William Fletcher Boogher, Genealogical Publishing Co., 1965, page 289, Birth and Death Records from the Tombstones of the Old Stone Church Grave Yard in Augusta County, Virginia: Bell, Joseph, born 1774; died March, 1823. In light of the inscription, 1742 appears to be correct.

Augusta Stone Church Cemetery, Old Part, Ft. Defiance, Augusta County, Virginia on http://files.usgwarchives.net/va/augusta/cemeteries/augstoneold.txt says a Joseph Bell died 4 Mar 1823.

Joseph is "referred to in Stone Church William Bell's will. He married Elizabeth Henderson b. 25 Jul 1746 on 8 May 1765."

Note: During this early period, middle names were not common. There is no evidence that Joseph had a middle name. The post naming of Senior and Junior in this same period usually meant one person was older or young that a person with the same given name and surname, it did not always indicate a father son relationship in the 18 and early 19th century.

Disambiguation

Not the same as Joseph Bell

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bell-1622

(For a time a tradition was current among the descendant of Joseph Bell to the effect that he was an only child, son of a Joseph Bell who was murdered, with his wife, by an indentured servant. The origin of this tradition is not clear, but it is known that there was an older Joseph Bell (contemporary to William Bell, father of Joseph . This older Joseph Bell purchased a lot at the founding of Staunton in 1747, and received a license to operate an “ordinary” in 1758. It seems likely that he was a close associate, probably a brother of William Bell, which could account for the confusion in the tradition).
