He was a private in King George's War, 4th Company, Captain George Morey, Col. James Dwight Reg't, and was in the 1745 Louisburg Expedition. He also served in the French and Indian War and was later a Lieutenant and Captain in the Revolutionary War, serving in Captain Daniel Lathrop's 7th Company, Col. Thomas Craft's Reg't, Artillery. He served four consecutive commissions in the Army from May 1776 to May 1777.
Joseph married Mary Stevens and they had 10 children: Ephraim, Eliza, Molly, Samuel, Catherine, Joseph, Susanna, Eleazer, Sarah and Silence. It is said that Joseph died in Bridgewater, Massachusetts and perhaps after 1777 but nothing more is known about his passing at this time. [1]

Joseph Cole son of Joseph and Mary was born 1734 in Plympton Mass. He married Elizabeth Southworth 8 Dec 1757 in Bridgewater Mass. Elizabeth was born in Bridgewater 19 Jan 1735 the daughter of Constant and Martha (Keith) Southworth. Joseph and Elizabeth had the following children.
