obert Cannon was born about 1791, either in Guilford County, North Caroli na or in Davidson County, Territory of the United States, South of the Oh io River.

He enlisted in the War of 1812, as a resident of Williamson County, Tennes see, entering the ranks as a private on September 24, 1813, date of enlist ment of his older brothers, Captain Newton Cannon and Private Clement Cann on. He served under his brother, Newton, who was promoted to a Colonel a nd served under Captain Martin. His branch of service was the "Tennessee M ounted Gunmen." "Remarks", given in regard to his service:

"Did not return to camp agreeable to orders, 8 December 1813, for which ti me he is absent without leave. Add six days travelling allowance."

He married in Williamson County, Tennessee, on November 25, 1822, Elizabe th Scales of that county. (Williamson County Marriage Book I, page 218)

Robert Cannon inherited by Will the land of his father, Minos Cannon, Sr ., in Williamson Countyy and probably did not move to Bedford County unt il after the deaths of his father and mother, 1829-1832.

He died in Bedford County and was buried in the Cannon graveyard with h is brothers Clement and Minos Cannon, Jr.
