WILLIAM PLAUMMER was the finest type of the old Virginia Gentlemen (Bishop Meade). He lived on his plantation near Mobjack Bay; was appointed by Gloucester Co., a member of the Committee of Safety 1775; Captain the First Regiment of the Continental Dragoons with command of Theoderick Bland, of the Revoltution War: Major of Gloucester Co. Militia 1777. (P134, "The kWillis of Virginia" by Maud Potter. Capt Wm Plummer died in Glucester Co, about 1779.

Captain George William Plummer was a member of Theodorick Bland's Light Dragoons in 1777. He was a farmer and an Episcopalian, serving as vestryman at Kingston Parish from 1756-1771. When he died, he left 16,000 pounds to his wife Mary. Mary and the children moved to Warren County, NC where she purchased 300 acres of land for 800 pounds on the SW side of Possum Quarter Creek. Captain George William is buried in Virginia, but many of his descendants are buried in the Plummer Cemetery in Warrenton, N.C.
