About (Captain) Anson Leete
Capt. War of 1812
“He (Captain Anson Leete) went to Herkimer County, N.Y., in 1802, and to Chautauqua County, N.Y., in 1817. In the spring of 1817 Capt. Leete bought at the Land Office, for $4.50 per acre, the tract of land embracing the now famous Chatauqua Point. From this time until 1875 it was known as Leete’s Point. It then, passed into the possession of the Point Chataugua Association, and took its present name.” (Source: "The Family of William Leete,” by Alvan Tolcott, published 1884).
