About Captain John Rush, Jr.
The first known member of the Rush Family to be in the state of New Jersey was a certain John Rush, who was reported to be a land owner in Burlington County in 1695-1697. Since no other Rush is known to have entered the state for another fifty years, we can assume that this John was the son of "Old Trooper" and Susanna. Emigrated to Burlington County, New Jersey.
Is considered the ancestor of the New Jersey branch of the Rush family.
John Rush, born 1 May 1660, died after 1697. Wife or wives unknown. Father of
- John Rush, born 1682 in Byberry Twp. Pennsylvania. Married Sarah Carver.
- Thomas Rush, born 1687 in Byberry, Montgomery, Pennsylvania. Married Esther Crispin.
Dr. Benjamine Rush, in his account of the descendants of John Rush and Susan Rush said of Thomas Rush, “He lived to be eighty-four years of age and died about the year 1770. He passed the first furteen years of his life with his Grandfather, John Rush,and has often related anecdotes to Benjamine rush and others of the battles,skirmishes, etc. of the old Captain, which he received from his own lips.”
