FROM THE 1890s J. PERCY CRAYON BOOK, "JOHN MC RANDALL, A LIFE AMONG THE LOWLY":

Timothy Southard was a Revolutionary soldier, and is said to have died from the effects of the war, and buried at Rockaway. His father, also named Timothy, was among the first settlers in the Hibernia mountains from Long Island. His wife died, leaving young Timothy by a few weeks old, born Oct.6, 1736. His father sold out his household belongings and started on foot to return to relatives at Long Island. He passed the first night at Haden's at Denville, and was induced to leave young Timothy, and return later, or during the next summer. He never returned, and was never heard from. The idea that Charity wife of Abraham HEDDEN was daughter of Samuel MUNSON was a working theory originated by Henrietta Hedden of Thayer, Mo. It ultimately got put in the Munson Record as fact.
The theory rests on the fact that both the Munsons and Heddens came from the same area of New Jersey. Both families had members baptized at the Morristown, N.J., Presbyterian Church. Both went to Surrey County, N.C., then both moved to the Blue Grass area of Kentucky.
There was a Munson Hedden, one of the names which led Mrs. Hedden to put her theory together. Also, I believe and can't prove (but it was placed in the Munson record as fact) that Samuel Munson's daughter Catherine , baptised in 1756, married Ralph Griffin. Ralph and Catherine had a daughter Charity and they had a daughter Ruth (Catherine Munson had a sister Ruth Munson proven to have married Benjamin Van Cleve.)

Note

The marriage of Charity Munson to Abraham Hedden is based on the entry in the family Bible of Jacob Hedden which lists his parents as Abraham Hedden and Charity. The listed " Charity " is assumed to be Munson since their descendants carry names of Samuel Isaac Munson, and Isaac Monson in the male descendants for three or four generations.

This marriage is further supported by the fact that Abraham Hedden was baptized in the First Presbyterian Church of Morristown, New Jersey, which contains many references to the Munson family of Charity. The strong family ties are further supported by the records of the Virginia Militia during the Revolutionary War. Abraham is listed as a member of Capt. Joe Cox's company followed immediately by the name Samuel Munson, the father of Charity. Abraham is listed in Fayette County, Kentucky in 1768 with Samuel Munson, Samuel Munson, Jr., Isaac Munson, Ralph Griffin, and Samuel Mahuron.
