Jean dit le Jeune Belliveau was born about 1674.[1] He was the son of Jean Belliveau and Jeanne Bourg. He was age 14 on the 1686, Port Royal census, living with his parents and paternal grandparents.[2] He was counted again in 1693 at the age of 20, in the family home. [3]
When he was about 22 years old, Jean married 19-year-old Madeleine Melanson, daughter of Charles and Marie Dugas about 1696 in Port Royal, Acadia. They had five known children: [1]
- Charles Belliveau ca 1697-1758
- Jean Belliveau ca 1699-
- Louis Belliveau ca 1700-/1703
- Marie Madeleine Belliveau 1703-/1764
- Pierre (dit Piau) Belliveau 1706-1767
The 1698 census shows the young couple living next door to Jean's parents. They had one son, Charles, and owned farm animals but no land was listed.[4] The subsequent censuses between 1700 and 1707 indicate that Jean and Madeleine continued to raise their family and tend their farm in Port-Royal.[5][6][7][8]
Jean Belliveau Le Jeune passed away 13 September 1707, aged about 33 years of a wound received in the battle against the English and was buried the same day at Port Royal.[9][10]
"Les Belliveau du Nouveau-Brunswick remontent à un deuxième Jean Belliveau, qui était l'aîné des enfants du premier mariage. Ce second Jean est né vers 1674. Vers 1696, il s'est marié à Madeleine Melanson, soeur de celle qui deviendra sept ans plus tard la seconde épouse de son père. Jean Belliveau fils est décédé à la suite de blessures reçues lors de l'invasion des Anglais en septembre 1707, laissant sa veuve chargée de trois fils et d'une fille."[11]
Translation: The New Brunswick Belliveau family are descended from a second Jean Belliveau who was the eldest of the children from the first marriage. This second Jean was born about 1674. About 1696, he married Madeleine Melanson, sister of his father's second wife. Jean Belliveau, the younger, died as a result of injuries received during the English invasion, September 1707, leaving his widow with three sons and a daughter.
