About Marie Bellevue

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Melanson-10

Madeleine Melanson was born around 1677, very likely in Port-Royal. She was the 7th child of Charles Melanson and Marie Dugas.[1][2]

Madeleine was listed in the census of 1686 at age 9 with her family at Port-Royal. [3] She was counted again in 1693 with her family that was doing well, being the owners of an impressive amount of farm animals and land holdings.[4]

When she was about 19 years old, Madeleine married 22-year-old Jean Belliveau dit le Jeune, son of Jean Belliveau and Jeanne Bourg, around 1696 in Port Royal, Acadia.

They had five known children: [2]

  1. Charles Belliveau ca 1697-1758
  2. Jean Belliveau ca 1699-
  3. Louis Belliveau ca 1700-/1703
  4. Marie Madeleine Belliveau 1703-/1764
  5. Pierre (dit Piau) Belliveau 1706-1767

The 1698 census shows the young couple living next door to Jean's parents. They had one son, Charles, and owned farm animals but no land was listed. [5] The subsequent censuses between 1700 and 1707 indicate that Jean and Madeleine continued to raise their family and tend their farm in Port-Royal.[6][7][8][9]

Jean Belliveau Le Jeune passed away 13 September 1707, aged about 33 years of a wound received in the battle against the English. Madeleine was widowed at around age 30 with 4 children in the family home. [10] By 1714, she was living alone in Port-Royal, near the fort.[11]

Stephen White, citing the publication Nova Francia vol VI, mentions that a poor woman, mother of 4 children whose husband had been killed and house burned, received a captured ship as a gift from pirates. This woman was the widow of Jean Belliveau.[2]

"Madeleine Melanson, widow of Jean Belliveau, is probably among the people that leave Port-Royal aboard the Pembroke, destined to exile in North Carolina. The Acadian passengers took control of the ship and steered it to the St. John River. Then they sailed up river to Ste-Anne-du-Pays-Bas, where they stopped for the winter. It is possible that Madeleine Melanson died not long after leaving Port-Royal; there is no sign of her after that."[12][13]

It is thus believed that Madeleine was at St. John River on 8 February 1756 when the Pembroke arrived there.[14]

Madeleine passed away after February 1756.
