OBITUARY. Our Karoonda correspondent has furnished the following particulars relative to the career in the State of the late Mr. Charles Evans, who died recently at the age of 91 years: — Mr. Evans arrived in the State as a child of three, on the sailer Katherine Stuart Forbes. His father was the first Chief Inspector of Customs at Port Adelaide. Mr. Evans spent most of his life in farming, but he also participated in the Victorian gold rush, with out great success. On his return from the fields he settled at Saddleworth, and later at Keyneton, where he had extensive interests. For the last 10 years, however, he lived in retirement at Semaphore. He took great interest in the affairs of his district, but his retiring nature prevented him from accepting any public office. He prided himself on being the oldest Rechabite, as he had been a member of the order for more than 30 years. Notwithstanding his great age, his sight was unimpaired, and up to his death he was able to read without glasses. He married Miss B. de Size, who died four years ago. They had 14 children, nine of whom are still living — Messrs. Charles (Kartonda), George (Purnong), Mrs. Woodman (Kooringa), Mrs. Moodie (Yelland), Mrs. F. Grote, and M, Grist (Semaphore), M. McGuire. and L. Moree (W.A.),, and Mrs. W. Wiedenhofer (Karoonda). There are 42 grand children and 24 great-grandchildren.
