Charles Lucas Pinckney Horry was educated on 10 Sep 1781; Horry, Charles Lucas Pinckney, son of Col. Daniel Horry, of Hampton, Santee River, South Carolina, by his second wife, Harriott, sister of Charles Cotesworth Pinckney [q.v.]; b 1769; adm. Sept. 10 1781 ; left 1786; Trin. Coll. Camb. adm. fellow commoner December 15 1768, but did not matric; settled in France, where he dropped his only baptismal name of Daniel and became known as above described; the full-length portrait of Horry in his college gown, stepping from the gateway of Trinity Coll. Camb., painted by Romney in 1789 was unhappily destroyed in 1865; a writer of the Gent's Mag. 1823. pt. 1, p.494 states that Horry was the author of the well-known epigram on Benjamin Jowett of Trinity Hall and his little garden, which is generally attributed to Francis Wrangham (see Dict. Nat. Biog., XXX, 215): m. Eleonore Marie Florimond de Fay, daughter of Comte de la Tour Maubourg, and niece of General Lafayette.
