About Col. Daniel Huger Horry
Daniel Huger Horry II was the son of Daniel Huger Horry I and wife Sarah Bettison. He was born in St James Parish, Santee, South Carolina. He married (1) Judith Serre on December 9, 1759 and (2) Harriet Pinckney on February 15, 1788. He had a distinguished career in public service. He died November 12, 1785, at his plantation and was buried in Echaw Churchyard, St. James Parish, Santee, South Carolina
Daniel studied law in London, having been admitted to the Inner Temple on October 21, 1758 and admitted to the English Bar on June 29, 1759. After returning home to South Carolina he became a rice planter in St. James Parish. He owned Hampton Plantation, a part of the original Huger land holdings at Wambaw Plantation.
