Notes Immigrated on Golconda to Botany Bay in August of 1858, somehow migrated to Victoria by 1862. Drawn to the area because siblings already resident in the area (Woodstock).
Charles operated Payne's Punt on the Goulburn River, Alexandra, Victoria and disappeared from it leaving his walking stick and hat in the vessel. Local authorities dredged the river and recovered his body. An inquested was held and a verdict of Accidental Drowning was returned. From various documents including Victorian Inquest Records. The Alexandra Times mentions that "a fatal accident" occurred at the Goulburn on Thursday evening, by which Mr. Payne of the punt Farmers' Friend lost his life. It sems that the deceased was missed from his usual
post, his bat and stick being found in the boat attached to the punt The river was then dragged, and the body of the unfortunate man was recovered.
