Sources: The name of Nahettaly came from a 1990 letter from Cecil Vinson and is also in her notes regarding an interview with her grandfather Martin L. Thompson on March 14, 1934 (Note: she spelled it Not-a-holly). Other Sources: The Beech Island Historical Society, 144 Old Jackson Highway, P. O Box 158, Beech Island, SC 29842; Forgotten Outpost - Fort Moore & Savannah Town 1685-1765, by Harold S. Maness

"Forgotten Outpost - Fort Moore & Savannah Town 1685-1765" A conference was held at Fort Moore in July of 1758, between William Bull and the Chickasaw head men that were settled at New Savannah just below Augusta. Governor Lyttleton had desired Bull to give the Indians presents, and inquire about the lands on Horse Creek above Fort Moore. The Chickasaw warriors were represented at the meeting by Nahettaly, Mingo Stoby and the Old Doctor.

Note: Squirrel King is not mentioned at this meeting, was he ill or had he died? Although the Chickasaw agreed to give up the land on Horse Creek, the move never came to pass. They continued to live and plant both places until their removal from the area.
