In order, however, to shew how the truth stands, a verbatim copy of the contract of marriage between
Murdoch Mackay, eldest son and apparent heir of Niel Mackay of Achness, and Christian, daughter of Donald AIackay of Scoury, is added in a foot note. The original contract is in the author's possession. Donald Mackay of Strathnaver, afterwards Lord Reay, is a party to it.
