He served in the Revolutionary War as a Colonel with the Green Mountain Boys, and was injured at Fort Ticonderoga. His military and political activities are well documented in the published literature, both historical and genealogical. Here is an excerpt from a contributor concerning his military activities:

His record shows that he fought in the French and Indian War because it contains an application for a bounty for an Indian scalp, a customary procedure for proving involvement in the French and Indian War. He continued his service in the militia and was later elected a Lieutenant in Ethan Allen’s Green Mountain Boys. His records also show that he was present at the taking of Fort Ticonderoga, New York on May 10, 1775; he remained at Fort Ticonderoga as part of the garrison.

At some later date he was seriously injured by the stoke of a machete type cutlass to the wrist. The injury was so bad that it almost cut his hand off entirely. This all occurred when he and others tried to disarm a soldier who was either a madman or a Tory. The soldier had gathered a selection of weapons and Warren and others were attempting to disarm him when the injury took place. The wound was serious enough to disqualify him from any more active duty and he was no longer capable of obtaining his livelihood by labor and became a Colonel in the Vermont Militia.
