About Col. Thomas Corbie Baker
Baker Family legend has it that Thomas Baker manufactured gunpowder for the Continental Army during the Revolution, was killed when his factory in Culpeper County blew up in 1777. Attempts to corroborate the claim have been unsuccessful.

Col.Thomas Baker, was commisioned by George Washington to manufacture gun powder for the Continental Army, and was engaged in that duty when the powder magazine exploded killing him. His body was not recovered.
Thomas married Dorothy Davenport in 1734 in Culpeper Co.,VA.
