Colonel Edward Lacey III was born June 6, 1775 and died July 15, 1858 . He was born in Chester District, South Carolina, and later moved with his parents to Kentucky, thence in 1816 to Jefferson County, Alabama. There were 16 families in the group that made the six weeks journey from Kentucky to Alabama. In January 1834 he moved to Pickens County, settling first between Carrollton and Pickensville, but later moved to the western part of the county. He was a successful farmer, a public-spirited citizen, a humane master and as a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, a faithful Christian. He married Margaret Conrad of Kentucky sho was born in Greenbrier County, Virginia April 14, 1784 and died October 21, 1855. Both are buried at Pine Grove Cemetery, Pickens County, Alabama. They had seven Children:
